EVEN THE LITTLE THINGS
Let’s see, tomorrow is Thanksgiving. We should all know what to be thankful for, so no sermon.
However, the past few days gave me a few special treats to be thankful for, too.
Thankful to be able to “get out of Dodge” for a few days. Thankful that my wife and son got the family room painted and back together, while I was gone. Thankful for over 800 miles of safe driving. Thankful for being able to spend some time with one of the daughters and her hubby and the kids. Thankful for attending my wife’s aunt’s 90th birthday party. Thankful for the chance to visit an old college buddy for a few minutes- first met him 48 years ago. Thankful for the quick drive-by view of the historic buildings and monuments of DC.
Thankful for the change of pace for a few days. Thankful to be home again with my bride.

HOPE FOR WOMEN
in Church, Freddie, General

Last evening, I had the pleasure of attending a Dessert Benefit for Hope for Women. It was a gala of, I would estimate around 150 people, that gathered at the Albany Senior Citizens Center. We enjoyed homemade desserts while the Hilton Brothers Band jazzed things up, joined by guest songbird, Susan Davey.
Hope for Women is a program started in 2006, by Rev. Keith Davey, pastor of New Hope Church, Albany,NY and is co-sponsored by 5 additional area churches, including the Delmar Full Gospel, to provide shelter, as well as spiritual and life skills to women of all ages and backgrounds. The program assists women to regain self esteem and self assurance, and the opportunity to straighten their lives out.
You could hear a pin drop as one woman told of the negative life she lived since she was a very young girl. She became involved with Hope for Women in 2006, and has turned her life around, and now is proud of who she is.
So engrossing was her story, like I said, that the room was so quiet, the silence was deafening. I just couldn’t do justice to her story by reiterating it here.
If you know a woman, or you, your-self, needing assistance getting her/your life in order, because of physical or mental abuse, substance abuse, straying from the straight and narrow for various reasons, Hope for Women might be your answer.
Or if you’d like to contribute your time, physical or mental skills, or any kind of material assistance, they would be welcome.

VETERANS DAY 2009

Mid week, a special Thank-you Day, better know as Veterans Day, is observed.
So, how about on Wednesday, or even today or tomorrow, or just any old time, you seek out someone you know who is, or has been in the military (and civilians, too, who have served), and drop them an e-mail, a phone call, a note, a knock on their door, or greet them on the street or in the store.
A simple “Thanks” is all that has to be said. And a quick prayer for their service and safety, isn’t a bad idea either.
A special hug, prayer and thanks to those families who have had a loved one give the ultimate service for us.
Besides my great grandfather(the earliest of my family living in the town of Bethlehem) and two of his sons, who all served in the War Between the States, to my daughter and my son-in-law, who serve today, there’s also been my dad, several cousins, uncles, brother-in-laws and nephews, who have preserved the United States of America, for me and you.
Thank you all, and a big THANK YOU to all the men and women who have, or are serving and protecting our great country.
On Wednesday, at least one international company, Canadian Pacific RR,
http://www8.cpr.ca/cms/English/Media/News/General/2009/Canadian+Pacific+salutes+fallen+soldiers.htm
will pause to honor the veterans who serve and have served the United States and Canada. Yes, Canada also observes Veterans Day.
Take a minute and tell us about a relative, friend or neighbor who is serving, or has served our country.
