SNOW SHOVEL OR SNOWSHOE?

My mentor.
My daughter told me that New York and New England weather was a big deal in the Phoenix Newspaper and TV.
During the winter, I like to dress in layers. That way, if you warm up from rigorous outside activities (read: shoveling snow), you can peel something off before you work up a sweat.
The knit hat came out, too. For some reason, the baseball cap wasn’t equipted with ear flaps. George Steinbrenner, we’re in NY, not Aruba.
Met one of the neighbors who was scraping every last trace of snow from his driveway. Thought he needed some cheering up. “Hey, Jerry. I like the philosophy of the late Mayor Corning on snow removal.”
“How’s that. That it’ll go away in April.”
“Almost, guy. ‘The Lord sent it, and the Lord will take it away.’ Gotta go. Catch ya later. ”
I think the mayor had the right idea.
Gosh, why spend money on shovels, snow blowers and plows! Be practical and buy warm clothing, skis, snow shoes…and enjoy yourself. Don’t you deserve a break? Didn’t you mow lawn all summer?
Oh, yeah. My daughter also told me that her family wasn’t all bundled up in their winter jackets, like the Phoenix natives, just because it was 45 degrees. See, there are advantages to growing up in NY and living in Denver, CO.

First snow of 2009-10 Winter 12054 The first snow; alway a wonder. Wonder when it’s gonna start. Wonder if it’s gonna snow. Wonder how much snow we’ll get. Wonder how long it’s gonna snow. Wonder how much we’re gonna get. Wonder if it’s gonna stop. Wonder if there’ll be enough to sleigh ride. Wonder if school [...]
STILL TIME
Jingle, jingle, jingle…sounds made mostly by bells this year. The jingle, jingle, jingle of cash/packages echoing off collection containers, is less frequent then previous years. You all know what I’m getting at. Almost every where you go, some one is collecting for those less fortunate then ourselves - charities, houses of worship, food pantries, pet shelters, schools, civic [...]
EVEN THE LITTLE THINGS
Let’s see, tomorrow is Thanksgiving. We should all know what to be thankful for, so no sermon. However, the past few days gave me a few special treats to be thankful for, too. Thankful to be able to “get out of Dodge” for a few days. Thankful that my wife and son got the family [...]

Last evening, I had the pleasure of attending a Dessert Benefit for Hope for Women. It was a gala of, I would estimate around 150 people, that gathered at the Albany Senior Citizens Center. We enjoyed homemade desserts while the Hilton Brothers Band jazzed things up, joined by guest songbird, Susan Davey. Hope for Women is [...]

Mid week, a special Thank-you Day, better know as Veterans Day, is observed. So, how about on Wednesday, or even today or tomorrow, or just any old time, you seek out someone you know who is, or has been in the military (and civilians, too, who have served), and drop them an e-mail, a phone call, a note, [...]
